During the Warring States period, many cultured people and scholars visited Ichijodani and the knowledge, culture, and cutting-edge technology they brought with them helped the local culture blossom. Among Fukui Prefecture's long history, from a cultural standpoint, this era was one where the culture was especially dazzling.   This castle town was the base of power for Asakura Family during the Warring States period, and was very prosperous, but in 1573, it was burned down by Oda Nobunaga's army. The Asakura Family collapsed and the castle town became buried entirely under the earth. The Ichijodani Asakura Family Site Museum has been working and excavating since 1967 to revive the Asakura Family's castle town from its over 400-year slumber, and discover all there is to know about the castle town and Asakura Family during the Warring States period.   We are continuing excavation, surveys, and research even now, and introduce the latest results of our research on the Asakura Family.   By exhibiting things such as some of the more than 1,700,000 excavated materials, a topographical model of Ichijodani, and a reproduction model of the mansion of the 5th leader of the Asakura Family, Asakura Yoshikage, we explain our research results so that you can easily understand them.   We are eagerly awaiting your visit! ABOUT MUSEUM You can enjoy learning about the overall picture of the Asakura Family's Sengoku castle town and its historical value through the full-size reproduction of the Asakura Residence, the exposed stone paving, and the huge diorama of the townscape of the castle town.
